OK, this is the third straight entry regarding about WHO and I know all of you must be really fed up reading this. Too bad, I just can't help it!

Quoted from WHO Report again and this time, it's Malaysia's turn.

The population of Malaysia was 26.6 million in 2006, with about 42% below 20 years of age and about 67% above 60 years. The...

...The economically productive or working-age population, classified as persons aged 15 to 64 years, accounts for a sizable population of 16 million, or 63.3% of the total population...

Population below 20 years old = 42%
Population above 60 years old = 67%

and that means...
Population between 20 to 60 years old = -9%
But given that,
Population between 15 to 64 years old = 63.3%

Can you solve this?

Calculation is done based on the assumption that population includes Malaysia Ministry of Imaginary Creatures registered ghosts! Those straying on streets, fighting on the roof tops, sleeping under your bed, everywhere within the physical boundary of Malaysia - GOOD Assumption. I am so proud of myself =)

From my research on health care market, I found out something interesting, again. If you think Japan is the fastest aging nation, think again...

Korea became an aging society (7% of population old) in 2000 as a result of low fertility and prolonged life expectancy and is expected to become an aged society (14% of population old) by 2018 and a super-aged society (20% of population old) by 2026.

It has taken France 115 years to move from an aging to an aged society and 40 years to move from an aged to a super-aged society, while for the United States of America it took 72 and 16 years, respectively, and 24 and 14 years for Japan. Considering such examples, 18 and 8 years for the Republic of Korea would be the world’s shortest transition...

So, young Korean children nowadays are expected to take care of their 2 parents, 4 grandparents and perhaps 8 great grandparents in addition to their own family when they're grown up later. So poor thing...

When people start noticing the surrounding people are old, they'll start to miss their youth and crave for young people. Perhaps we would expect to see an increase in demand for teen sex from middle-class-middle-age salary men, just like those in Japan. (Err... I drew this conclusion based on the JDrama I'd watched so far, k?) OK, let's spare all the old men, you can also see old aunties carrying fans printed with kawaii young boys in Tokyo MRT. So, Korean parents out there, watch your kids!

Bangladeshi People Die Young, VERY Young

But nah, it is much better compared to China (perhaps its common everywhere) 80 years ago, where people had 35 years of life expectancy. You get married at 16 year-old, have your first child at 17, first grandchild at 34 and have coffin as your home at 35.

Don't Mess up with the Aunties

Recall my previous post on Messing up with the Sultan, PAS protested against the move of inviting Ella and Mas to perform at Selangor Club because it will promote social ills.

Will crime rate be reduced when a country is governed absolutely by strict rules or religion? - I don't know, but apparently, it seems no.

Ironically, countries like Japan where you can get unisex common bathroom, porn at your fingertip, high school girls' underwear at sales, crazy Heavy Metal bands, some-cool-some-fugly Harajuku fashion, etc. have the lowest crime rate while places like you-know-what-countries occupied by you-know-what-kind-of-people are protesting on the street for some stupid reasons, fighting in the name of you-know-Who, bombing themselves for nothing, in absolute total mess instead of working and earning for a living.

Mas, I'll back your arse up! Good job and thumbs up for you!

Messing up with the Sultan

Every Malaysian knows that Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) is a die-hard Islamic party trying to turn Malaysia into a theocratic state under Islamic rule and Unfortunately/Fortunately (underline the correct answer - 10 points) they are the ruling party of Selangor state, the most advance and wealthiest state in Malaysia.

The Selangor Cup is a annual football match sponsored by Selangor state and this year, rock singer Ella and Mas Idayu are invited to perform the hip-swivelling "dangdut" dance.

The PAS party protests against the performance and threatened to demonstrate at the stadium if the women were allowed to perform.

Sultan was absolutely displeased. Quote:

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah told The Star daily that the protest over the two women – rock singer Ella and Mas Idayu, who performs the hip-swivelling "dangdut" dance – was "hypocritical" and "trivial".

"If this is going to be so difficult, we might as well hold this annual event in Singapore. I am sure they will be more than happy to play host," he told the daily.

But Sharafuddin said Selangor was not made up of "just PAS and Muslims" and that in any case the two performers were suitable for families. "I don't know what the fuss is all about," he said.

After getting their office not longer than 6 months, they are messing up with the Sultan - the very person who approves the state's nominee of Chief Minister.

Besides that, I don't think doing something that scares off non-Muslims voteres is a very smart idea either, especially in a state where there are many Chinese residence.

Moreover, the Sultan himself, who is the Islamic figurehead, said "I don't know what the fuss is all about".

It's just plain ridiculous. Soon they'll have separate queues for men and women in McDonalds, no Toto, no BABI (pork), no nightclubs (OMG), no holding hands in public, no spaghetti stripe, no mini skirt (what the heck?!), no kissing in public (else you'll end up spending 5 years in jail), no exposure of hair in shampoo advertisement (I find this absolutely absurd but it happened) and the no-list goes on...

WTH to Bangladesh MOH Website

When I was doing a market research on pharmaceutical market, I went to visit Bangladesh MOH website here and this is what I get:

NEP

Does NEP do more harm than good? This is what I think...

1. Say you are the indigenous race of a piece of land and a group of foreign race come to your land: 3 possibilities (they could be more, but this isn't a political blog)
   
   • The foreign race is far too powerful. The indigenous race is wiped off from the land - like the Red Indians in North America.
     
   • The foreign race is rich but outnumbered. The foreign race could be cleansed or mistreated in the end - like the Chinese in Indonesia.
     
   • The foreign race is poor and outnumbered. The foreign race will be enslaved - Blacks in the old America era.
     
     
2. The second point was what happened in Malaysia in May 13, 1969. Chinese were averagely richer and they couldn't keep their mouth shut. Thus, many were killed.
   Who is right? Who is wrong? Judge it yourself.
   
   
3. So, NEP were created to help the indigenous while suppress others.
   Well, I would say NEP were absolutely needed to unite the country again back at that time.
   
   
4. 50 years later today, they claim that Chinese still dominates Malaysia's economy.
   
   I ain't sure how true it is but if it is indeed true,
   

   Is it because the being-helped were so spoon fed?
   Or the ignored were more hardworking than ever?
   Or the wealth is being channeled to a certain group of people?
   

Whatever it is, I believe education is the key solution to poverty.

Give Man a fish and He'll survive for a day
Teach Him to fish and He'll be independent.

This way, there will not be mismanagement of funds and corruptions while the indigenous will be as competitive at the same time. Killing two birds with one stone. =)

Hence, I think NEP will do more harm than good (Of course, there are more reasons than this, but why bother to write a professional debate in a personal blog?) since it's not the ultimate solution that solves the root of the problem. However, I think NEP will remain effective in Malaysia for a long time to come since removing NEP = political suicide.

Do You Feel Discriminated?

I had a conversation with a psychologist (Don't get me wrong, I ain't psycho!) not long when I carpooled her car to MRT station after a meeting. She asked,

As a Chinese living in Malaysia, do you feel discriminated at times?

And here's what I replied,

Politically - yes; individually - not really.

Undeniably, Chinese and Indian are officially discriminated in many aspects (such as NEP) but we're still living harmoniously together as individuals. I went to visit my fellow Malay and Indian friends' houses during their Hari Raya and Deepavali; and they visited us during Chinese New Year - and that is beautiful. Don't you think so? Malaysia is unique, peaceful (still) and lovely (still).

Flip and Flop

If you observe carefully, the government has been making sudden official decisions and flip-flopping with its decisions since the office was taken over by Pak-Lah. Abdullah administration really likes to give supprises to its dear Rakyat. Tah-Dah, supprise! - not funny.

Sun Zi says,

"A good leader should always keep to his promises, else his people will lose confidence in him."

Among the few examples are:

1. Replacement of old causeway with Scenic Bridge
2. Banning sale of petrol to Singapore vehicles
3. Hiking petrol price
4. PM's marriage

I am focusing on point number 3 here. On June 4, 2008, the Prime Minister office made a sudden announcement that the retail petrol price would be increased 41% effective from June 5, 2008 and subsidies would be removed by August. On June 11, 2008, the government changed it's mind and there will be no further increase in petrol price for the rest of the year 2008. Flip and flopping in decision making, like what Tun Mahathir said in his blog.

Steak with White Rice?

Do Westerners serve steak with white rice? I noticed that it is increasingly popular for Singapore western food stalls (Yet to find a restaurant that is doing this, please write down the details of the restaurant in the Comment section if you know any) serving steak/chops with white rice. I find it weird, as if Asians will die without eating white rice in every single meal.

Memoirs of the Broken Tooth

Welcome to the The Broken Tooth's new blog. Why The Broken Tooth?

The story begins with a little monkey playing at the playground with his even little siblings. The monkeys performed stunts, vandalized and misused everything at the playground and bullied all other kids at sight. You may wonder:

"How does a primary school monkey misuse the recreational equipments at the playground?"

Take the playground slide as an example: they slided upwards rather than downward. (Imagine yourself) Even if it's downwards, they would slide with their head facing down. On and off, the monkeys would roll down together, with other kids watching... =.=

And they burnt dry leaves, scratched neighborhood cars, screamed, chased after neighborhood dogs, cut neighborhood flowers, and the list goes on and on...

One day, the little monkey knocked on the slide when they were playing let's-roll-down-together and broke his front tooth. (You EVIL adult - The Broken Tooth knows that you must be laughing out loud in your EVIL heart!)

So, that's the origin on the story. Lesson of the day - never let your monkeys perform stunts at the playground.
